1979 English, Yiddish.  Comedy   

one of “25 Essential Jewish Movies” – Jordan Hiller

A sweet naive rabbi from Poland, played by Gene Wilder, is sent to America in the 1800s by his village to transport their torah to a synagogue on the west coast. The rabbi traverses the Wild West in a series of misadventures, and ultimately befriended by a tough but kind cowboy played by Harrison Ford.
