In 1853 Solomon Nunes Carvalho, observant Sephardic Jew from Charleston SC, joined the Westward Expedition as a photographer to document the sweeping vistas and treacherous terrain of the far American West. Carvalho overcame enormous odds to produce beautiful art: daguerreotypes that became the lens through which the world experienced the West. Don’t miss this award winning documentary depicting the real-life 19th century western adventure of Carvalho’s journey.
