12:00 – 1:00: Lunch
1:00 – 3:00: Women’s Self Defense

College Connections: Talking To Your Teen About Drugs and Alcohol: 11am-12pm
Even though discussing alcohol and drug use can be uncomfortable and tough, it is vital to have a discussion with your teen or college student about decisions they will make regarding alcohol and other drugs. In fact, research suggests that parents, who had proactive communications with their college-aged teens about alcohol use had proactive effects on their student’s drinking and drinking related consequences.

Join Limor Schwartz, MSW, LCSW, JFS Director of Clinical and Social Services, as we explore this difficult subject and discuss ways to make “the talk” more approachable. We’ll learn specific tips on how to discuss the dangers of alcohol and drug use, how to handle peer pressure and how to keep the lines of communication open as a family. Limor Schwartz is a Master’s level, Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has been working at JFS since 2012.  Along with supervising staff, and overseeing &  developing clinical and social services, she provides sliding-scale counseling and therapy, case management, and administers the Jewish Educational Loan Fund (JELF) for our community.

Lunch with the participants: 12pm-1pm
